i said this for that episode in Kobayashi's Dragon Maid where Kanna visits America. it would have been hilarious if they'd stopped using Maria Naganawa her JVA and started using her EVA Jad Saxton in those English scenes. put Japanese subtitles at the bottom of the screen and i bet the Japanese fans would have gone NUTS! heh! :D

and yes Angel is Vermouth's NICKNAME for Ran.

the REASON Vermouth calls Ran, Angel is... ahh this one might be spoiler but i can NOT remember when the New York City episode (flashback) happened ... ahhh... this is 'Conan-verse Timeline' WAY WAY before Ran and Shin entered high school... perhaps 2 years before 'The Rollercoaster Murder' episode 1 happens. there is a dovetailing storyline that ONLY happens/shows up in flashbacks of those two when they were 15 or 16 years old. the first part of it (by timeline) i THINK actually is shown as a full episode but it was broadcast AFTER the NYC part. the NYC is told mostly from Ran's perspective but there is a smidge of bad writing blending in Shin's perspectives... because Ran is recalling that time or telling the story of it to somebody... i forget the exact details. the 'prequel' mystery IS told from 2 perspectives, Chief Inspector Megure's POV (point of view) and Shin's POV. how THAT works i can NOT remember.

mmkay, Shin and Megure are on a plane heading to the USA. Shin is BEHIND Ran because she caught an earlier flight because Shin got tied up with a case. the two of them are 'heading' to the US because Mrs. Kudo called Shin 'over here' for some reason, i forget why. she's in a play or something. i dunno. Shin invites Ran and so on. murder ensues on the plane and whatnot. there is an ambassador or US Embassy employee involved or was killed and so forth. Megure and Shin have to work together solve it etc. i know i'm rambling but this one takes a LOT of intro to work in the basic outlines.

mmmkay! Shin lands in NYC, annd THIS part of the story is the New York City bit. and his mom picks him up to take him to the hotel. great car in this episode, 1968 Jaguar E-Type FHC Series II, his mom has AMAZING taste in cars! aha! i found the episode! 286-288 ok ok this WOULD be spoiler territory since this is episode 272 we're commenting on. i'll truncate/edit why Vermouth calls Ran, Angel. RAN SAVES VERMOUTH'S LIFE. that's all i'll say. ;> if it wasn't for Ran... Vermouth WOULD HAVE DIED... 100% no doubt, no speculation, no subterfuge, no tricks of storytelling... mkay. there ya have it. now keep watching till you get to 286-288 and WATCH THE EPISODES CAREFULLY! because there is a WHOLE CRAP TON OF THINGS GOING ON IN THOSE EPISODES! ;>
